The Care of Midwives

Perform prenatal and postpartum exams including postpartum home visits.

Educate patients on health, nutrition, and family planning.

Take client vital signs

Perform test to obtain information about clients medical conditions.

Counsel expectant mothers on birthing plans, including hospital care, birthing centers and other options

Provide emotional care for mothers during birth

Arrange prenatal planning and care for mothers

Coach mother through the birthing process

Perform deliveries

Tend to the health and well-being of both baby and mother during labor and birth

Consult with back up physicians for patients with risk factors or complications

Provide care for mothers and newborns after birth

Monitor the patient vital signs and heart rate during birth

Study patient history and health assessment

Communicate stages of birth to family members

Explain and demonstrate breastfeeding techniques

Monitor patient postpartum and be available for questions and concerns
