Midwifery Services

Midwifery Prenatal Care 

  • Our midwifery services provide hour long prenatal visits with the midwife. During these visits we will discuss nutrition, the physiological changes happening during pregnancy, the birthing process, postpartum recovery and answer any questions your family may have. Our Midwife follows the typical OB schedule for prenatal visits: 

  • Monthly visits until 28 weeks

  • 20 week anatomy scan performed by professional ultrasonographer and reviewed by radiologist ($200 Fee paid to radiologist by client)

  • Biweekly visits from 28 weeks through 36 weeks

  • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until your baby is born (during your 36 week appointment we support mother in creating a birth plan to support your desired birth)

  • During the first visit all clients are screened using Risk Criteria and ensure they are low risk and qualify for out of hospital birth

  • During our visit:

  • We will check your blood pressure and weight gain

  • Discuss your nutrition and activities

  • Check your baby’s growth, position and heart rate

  • Obtain blood samples for testing, as needed

Midwifery

Labor and Birth 

  • Our midwives support all families during birth. Each mother receives individualized care that support and meet the needs of her and her family. 

  • We monitor your baby’s heart tones regularly, as well as your vital signs

  • Fluids by IV during pregnancy, labor or postpartum if desired or needed

  • At least 2 fully trained midwives and 1 fully trained birth assistant at your birth

  • Routine laboratory testing and newborn screening

  • Vitamin K for baby

  • Newborn Metabolic Screening 

  • Provide emergency medications if needed

  • Perineal suturing, if necessary

  • Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) Infant screening

  • Birth certificate filing 

Midwifery Postpartum Support 

  • A follow up home visit 24-48 hours after birth to evaluate mother and baby's adjustment

  • Follow up office visits during days 4-5 and days 10-14 for breastfeeding support and newborn screening

  • Postpartum care as needed after birth until 6 weeks postpartum

Monitrice Service

  • What is a Monitrice ?

  • A monitrice is essentially a midwife acting in the doula role, who also has clinical training in labor assessment.

  • Three prenatal appointments where we will review your birth preferences, educational needs and pertinent history, and get to know one another. We will also discuss and practice labor coping mechanisms, positions for birth; ways your partner can help to support you; and I answer questions unique to your pregnancy and birth. 

  • To the hospital? A Midwife will accompany you to your place of birth acting as your Birth Doula.  She will provide physical, emotional, and educational support and resources, as well as immediate postpartum and breastfeeding support. 

  • One postpartum visit.
